Downers Grove is one of Chicago’s most desired communities to live in and for good reason. It is conveniently located off of highways 355 and 88 which allows commuters to get anywhere in the Chicagoland area conveniently and has two train stations which really makes Downers Grove a commuter’s dream. The downtown area has lots of fun little shops and restaurants to discover. The schools in Downers Grove are some of the most sought-after making it the top choice for families who value education. Speaking of education, research is key for anyone that wants to hire roofing contractors to do a roof replacement on their home. The owner of the home for this case study had the house built in the early 2000s. They had done their research and interviewed several architects and hired the best architect that had been featured in several magazines who loved to do stunning and original designs. In order to make the boldest statement possible, the architect made the roof really steep to give the house some beautiful peaks which results in stunning curb appeal.
So when it came to redoing the roof on his home, not only was he educated (he provides insurance to roofing contractors), he also did his research on us and several other roofing companies as well. He hired us because he felt we were the best fit even though we were actually the most expensive bid he received to redo his roof. He wanted it done by someone who valued the attention to detail needed to complete his roof replacement correctly.
The picture at the top features a roof replacement near me if you live in the Downers Grove area. You can see the two magnificent peaks in the front which really give this home incredible curb appeal. We installed Owens Corning TruDefinition Duration shingles in the Onyx Black color.
The home previously had a light gray shingle like you can see in the picture below. Our client wanted something else that would contrast better with the light red brick on the front and the white siding in the back. Before work began we installed netting and tarps to protect the house and landscaping.
In the next picture you will see us tearing off the shingles on the back off the house. We used plywood to protect the house where shingles were being dropped. We also made sure that all of our roofing contractors had ropes and harnesses. This is always important, especially when the roof is as steep as this one.
In the picture that follows you see what the roof replacement looks like after completion from the back elevation. The onyx black shingles look really sharp with the white siding. It almost looks like the popular farm-house style you see on HGTV and that is happening all over Downers Grove and other suburbs in custom homes. The most noticeable feature of a farm-house style home is white siding and black roofs.
The picture below shows how steep parts of this roof replacement were. Here you can see that we installed Owens Corning VentSure® 4-Foot Strips so that the roof could properly breathe. Ridge vent is superior to mushroom vents found on most roofs. We then installed Owens Corning DuraRidge® Hip & Ridge Shingles on the ridge vent and this photo was taken before all of the ridge shingles were installed on the ridge vent.
In the final photo below you can see a close up of how dramatic the roof peaks are on the front of the home. The peaks and shingles are absolutely beautiful and you can see why our client did their research. We loved helping them choose the color that really made the house pop. If you look above the bay window we also replaced the counter flashing and grinded into the brick. We installed black counterflashing to match the shingles.
When we were completed with the project our client for this project gave us a 5 star rating on Google “Lifetime Xteriors did a great job from recommendation to presentation to installation and clean-up. Our new roof looks terrific. Highly recommend this contractor!”
